Grapefruit – “Forbidden Fruit” – “One of the Wonders of Barbados” – was first described in 1750 by the Walesian botanist-priest Griffith Hughes. Later, the grapefruit was called “little shaddock” because of its resemblance to the pomelo, which was then called sheddot, and in 1814, Jamaican traders renamed the fruit grapefruit. It is an accidental hybrid of pomelo and orange. Grapefruit is known for its fresh aroma, ability to lift the mood and increase concentration. In addition, grapefruit is famous for its clean properties and is often used to care for problem skin, giving it smoothness, purity and a healthy appearance.
