Birch essential oil is derived from the bark of the Betula lenta tree, commonly known as the black birch, cherry birch, or hornbeam. Its composition, based on methyl salicylate, is very similar to that of CPTG®-certified wintergreen oil, but those with a sensitive sense of smell will notice the difference: CPTG®-certified birch essential oil has a more complex aroma, including minty, slightly sweet, and woody notes. Birch essential oil has been traditionally used for many years, but it is typically available in small quantities due to the complex preparation and distillation processes. Obtaining pure birch oil without impurities is quite challenging, so dōTERRA chemists have spent considerable time researching the ideal method for identifying biomarkers and differentiating between birch and wintergreen oils, as well as synthetic methyl salicylate. Uses

• Use the oil to massage your back and legs after a workout to relax muscles.

Aromatic Use: Add 3-4 drops to your favorite diffuser.
